Digital SLR Photography : Beginners
To hear what recent students have to say about this course, click here
This 6-week course assumes no prior knowledge, and will start with the basic and essential photographic principles that should form the bedrock of every photographer's practise. Students will then learn how to use aperture and shutter speed creatively, how to achieve correct exposure, rules of composition, the correct use of autofocus, and how a multitude of other settings on modern digital SLR cameras can be used to help you get the perfect shot.
Weekly shooting assignments are critical in ensuring that each week's learning is converted into practical improvements, and each class starts with a group critique and discussion of that week's assignment. Questions are encouraged, and everyone gets the help they need to make sure they are following the learning, and have figured out exactly how their particular camera works. Whilst the course is suitable for total beginners, it has also proved valuable for those looking to refresh and expand their knowledge of photography, and to take photographs within a structured and fun environment.
Students must own a digital SLR camera. SLR cameras are identified from compact or bridge cameras by the fact that SLRs have removable and interchangeable lenses, and you look through a viewfinder to compose the image, rather than at a screen. If you are unsure whether your camera is an SLR, please email me its make and model for verification.
